Who can have the flu vaccine?

Influenza Vaccine Eligibility for 2024-2025 Season:

Available from 1 September 2024:

• regnant Women Aged 18 and Over
  • Includes women who become pregnant during the influenza season.

Starting from 3rd October 2024:

• Individuals Aged 65 and Over
  • Includes those turning 65 by 31 March 2025.

• Adults Aged 18-64 with Specific Health Conditions:
  • Chronic respiratory diseases (e.g., severe asthma, COPD).
  • Chronic heart or vascular diseases.
  • Chronic kidney disease (stages 3-5).
  • Chronic liver disease.
  • Chronic neurological conditions (e.g., Parkinson’s, motor neurone disease).
  • Learning disabilities.
  • Diabetes or adrenal insufficiency.
  • Issues with the spleen (asplenia or dysfunction).
  • Weakened immune system (e.g., due to HIV/AIDS or cancer treatment).
  • Morbid obesity (BMI of 40kg/m² or higher).

• Adults Aged 18-64 in High-Risk Situations:
  • Household contacts of immunocompromised individuals who share living space frequently.
  • Residents of long-term care facilities (excluding university halls, boarding schools, etc.).
  • Carers receiving a carer’s allowance or those whose illness could impact the person they care for.
  • Frontline health and social care workers without employer-led health schemes:
    • Employed in registered care homes or domiciliary care services.
    • Working for voluntary hospice providers.
    • Providing social care services to those who are clinically vulnerable to flu.
